Disney Workers are Focus of New Website

A website www.WeAreDisney.info launched this week by the Service Trades Council Union offers an exposé into the lives of the hard-working men and women who create the magic of Walt Disney World. Disney workers are finding their own families' security eroding at a time when Walt Disney World has enjoyed record revenues and stellar profits.

WeAreDisney.info takes you behind the scenes to meet those who work so hard to make millions of visitors' dreams come true every year. Featuring profiles of Disney workers, also known as "Cast Members," the site details their struggles to support themselves and their families.

The site also features the recently released study, "Walt Disney World's Hidden Costs: The Impact of Disney's Wage Structure on the Greater Orlando Area." The study shows that deteriorating wages at Walt Disney World led to an economic loss of $23.4 million to the greater Orlando economy in 2006.

A visitor's page for families planning a trip to Walt Disney World's parks and resorts helps them get informed about the ongoing Disney contract talks.   On April 28, 2007, a contract representing over 21,000 full-time, hourly Walt Disney World workers will expire.

The Service Trades Council Union is a coalition of five unions, UNITE HERE, Teamsters, UFCW, IATSE and the Transportation Communication Workers, that represent over 29,000 service workers at Walt Disney World.
