Will Disney introduce its first gay character in the ‘Frozen’ sequel?

We’re edging ever so slowly closer to the 2018 release date for the sequel to Disney’s Frozen, and fans of the franchise are lobbying its creators to make an LGBTQI-friendly addition.

The hashtag “Give Elsa a girlfriend” has been gaining traction on Twitter with supporters hoping to see the introduction of the animation studio’s first lesbian character.

The movement was started at the weekend by teen activist and feminist Alexis Isabel Moncada who simply wrote, “Dear @Disney, #GiveElsaAGirlfriend”.

It has since prompted plenty of talk online with supporters coming out in their tens of thousands. Some have even taken to drawing what they think the ice queen’s partner should look like with the idea of a biracial couple being favoured.

The chatter hasn’t been without opposition however, with some people stating they believe Elsa shouldn’t need a partner – whether they be male or female – to feel complete.

Some gay Twitter users also questioned whether Disney was ready – or should ever have to be – for its first gay Disney princess.
