Adelaide designer Paul Vasileff’s Disney-inspired Paolo Sebastian dresses catch Katy Perry’s eye

IT’S a real-life fairytale — pop princess Katy Perry in one of Adelaide designer Paul Vasileff’s Disney-inspired Paolo Sebastian dresses.

The US singer wore the Cinderella gown from the Once Upon a Dreamcollection on American Idol, on which she is a judge.

It is brilliant exposure for Paolo Sebastian Couture House which is based in Adelaide.

In March the season premiere of the talent show was watched by 10.3 million people in the US alone.

The Disney-themed episode, screened last night, in which Perry wears Vasileff’s design at Disneyland, is likely to have attracted even more viewers and a huge international audience.

In the lead up Perry shared a teaser of herself in the Cinderella gown with her more than 109 million followers on Twitter.

Vasileff, who has dressed global stars such as Kim Kardashian and Giuliana Rancic, said he was thrilled to see Perry in one of his creations.

“It’s the first time Katy Perry’s worn Paolo Sebastian and she’s the biggest celebrity we’ve dressed so far,” he said.

“Her stylist requested a few pieces and I was hoping it would be that one because the ‘Cinderella’ is the ultimate princess gown … for her to be wearing it in front of the castle at Disneyland is pretty epic.”

The dress, unveiled at last year’s Adelaide Fashion Festival, was made from 120 metres of Italian tulle and silk organza in the exact “Cool Grey” colour Cinderella wore in the 1950 Disney animated cinema classic.

Adorned with embroidery — lyrics to the film’s song So This Is Love and stars from the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand — it took two months to complete.
