Disney World shortens block-out period for passholders

Walt Disney World fans devotees that purchased annual passes with block-out dates have been informed that they will be welcomed back into the theme parks earlier than anticipated.

Silver-level passholders will be able to return to the streets of all four Disney World parks as of Aug. 1. The blockout period had been scheduled to run through Aug. 10.

Folks holding the Weekday Select Pass — a Monday-Friday option — also are eligible to return Aug. 1.

An email announcing the date change appeared to tie the lifting to the eminent departure of two long-running Disney rides. The last day for both the Great Movie Ride, an original attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Ellen’s Energy Adventure, featuring Ellen DeGeneres, at Epcot will be Aug. 13.

The Great Movie Ride will be replaced by Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, while a “Guardians of the Galaxy” attraction will go in the Energy Adventure building on the Future World side of Epcot.

Opening dates for those additions have not been announced.

Affected passholders will be able to make FastPass+ selections for the updated blockout dates as of Thursday, the email said.

The next scheduled blockout period for select passes is Dec. 18 through Jan. 2.
