Marvel Meets Mickey Mouse: Disney Parks Announces Avengers-Themed Areas

As the Marvel Universe continues to conquer the worldwide box-office with Black Panther, the popular superheroes will take up residence at Disneyland Parks across the globe. Theme parks in Anaheim, CA, will add new areas based on the residents of the superhero universe, who will also be seen in Hong Kong and Paris.

The Avengers appearing in Disneyland is just one of the many results of the $52.4 billion deal made when Disney purchased much of 21st Century Fox.

The announcement, which invited guests to become “part of a bigger universe,” in a new “completely immersive Super Hero universe” announced that Spider-Man and the Avengers would join the Guardians of the Galaxy in California. The West Coast park is already home to Guardians of the Galaxy-Mission: BREAKOUT! and A Bug’s Land, which will close to provide space for the new residents. Iron Man and the Avengers will cross the Atlantic to be featured in a “hyper-kinetic adventure” in Paris’ Disneyland, while Ant Man and the Wasp will travel to Hong Kong.

It is unclear if the Avengers’ additions will be a themed section of the park or an entirely new fictional land for fans to visit, like the latest addition to Disney’s Animal Kingdom park Pandora: The World of Avatar.

Disney’s various expansions accompany an increase in ticket prices in America, where the price of some single-day tickets have gone up almost 9%. The rising prices are credited to attempts to regulate crowd sizes and decrease the time visitors spend waiting.

Euro Disney is also planning a major overhaul, where a $2.4-billion expansion of Disneyland Paris will include themed lands inspired by Star Wars and Frozen. The Parisian park reported a 21% rise in operating income at its parks and resorts following Disney taking full ownership.

The new sections, developed with marvel studios and marvel themed entertainment, are scheduled to open by 2020. And with Black Panther breaking every record possible, it seems highly possible that Wakanda could be the next addition to Disney’s immersive journeys.
