News Corp Australia chief technology officer Alisa Bowen has resigned to join Disney in a move that will see a corporate restructure of the company’s digital product and technology operations.

Ms Bowen has been appointed senior vice president of Digital Media with The Walt Disney Company International, based in the United States.

The digital product and platforms team, led by Mark Drasutis, will now become part of News Digital Networks Australia, led by managing director Nicole Sheffield.

The consumer, circulation and marketing technology team headed by Clive Parsons will also sit inside News DNA.

Ms Bowen’s position will be filled by Dominic Hatfield, currently head of technology transformation and head of shared technology.

Prior to joining News Corp’s local operations in 2013, Bowen was chief product officer of Dow Jones, publisher of The Wall Street Journal.

In January 2016, Ms Bowen was promoted to the expanded role of CTO, overseeing newly merged technology and digital teams.

Earlier in her career, Ms Bowen was vice president and head of business operations for Reuters Media at Thomson Reuters.

She was responsible for the launch of the news agency’s first domestic news wire, Reuters America Wire.

In an email to staff, News Corp Australia executive chairman Michael Miller said: “While I am saddened to see Alisa go, I understand and respect her decision to pursue an exciting new career opportunity in another industry. Our loss is Hollywood’s gain.

“We will miss her skills, leadership and vision. She is a strong, principled executive whose success in leading our technology, digital and product teams has been significant.

“I am proud that under Alisa’s stewardship, our technology capabilities have evolved dramatically and are now world-class.”
