The Lion King at Crown Theatre Perth: Magical Disney show worth the wait

Mufusa and Scar in The Lion King.

THERE is a certain magic that overcomes you the moment an eerily dark stage erupts in colour and sound.

For the ears a vibration of conga drums was met with a stirring chorus of Circle of Life, an Elton John classic transported to epic musical heights.

For the eyes a Noah’s ark of animals, played by masterful puppeteers, leapt, fluttered and strode their lofty limbs across the saffron African plain, and arm distance down the theatre’s isles.

And in those first goosebump inducing seconds of The Lion King an emotion brimming in nostalgia and excitement hits.

Since its film release in 1994, The Lion King has become a story which firmly cements itself in all the hearts it meets, and takes its audience on a journey which can bring a grown man to tears.

The stage adaptation had a lot to live up to, not only for its iconic status, but because Perth has been waiting 17 years for the award-winning musical to grace our shores.
